Salt Spring Water Preservation Society
We are a non-profit charity dedicated to protecting the quality and quantity of SSI's drinking water sources and supplies. We monitor the actions of governments to ensure that impacts on watersheds and water resources are duly considered. WPS owns and maintains a 272-acre reserve in the St. Mary Lake watershed and 65 acres on 3 other parcels to protect water sources. We hold legal rights that conserve the hydrological and ecological values on an additional 13.5 acres. WPS supports research and information-sharing, promotes public education programs and sponsors the FreshWater Catalogue community science project, which gathers and collates data about our island’s surface water and groundwater. We welcome volunteers to assist with these activities.
