Gulf Islands Marine Rescue Society

Gulf Islands Marine Rescue Society is the charity that raises money and funds the operations of Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue's Station 25 on Salt Spring Island.  The 20 plus active members of Station 25 operate an open Titan 249 Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB), the Amarah Gabriel, and a crew is on standby for marine rescues 24/7. In addition, we have a number of junior members in training.

We regularly participate in co-training with Salt Spring Island Search and Rescue (SSI SAR), and neighbouring Stations. In addition, Station 25 have trained with the Canadian Coast Guard doing towing, pacing and search techniques and Salt Spring Air on the best methods of towing an airplane.

Station 25 volunteers offer safe boating programs for students of the local school district, conduct Courtesy Safety checks for the marine community, and maintain life jacket loaner stations at five locations around the islands.GIMRS is supported by annual grants from BC Community Gaming Grants Branch and has also received grants for specific items from the CRD, Salt Spring Foundation, Victoria Foundation, and the Royal Canadian Legion.

GIMRS welcomes all kinds of donations and sponsors.  Contact Tim Slaney tlslaney@telus.net, or phone (250) 537-6002 to discuss potential donations and sponsorship. We look forward to hearing from you and encourage you todonate locally.
